IN PORTUGAL, NEVER BEFORE WAS PRODUCED SO MUCH OLIVE TO OLIVE OIL

In addition to the production of olives for olive oil being at record levels, the income on olive oil are also expected to increase.

The production of olives for olive oil reached a historic peak last year of more than 940 thousand tons, becoming “the largest since 1941”, the first year in which there are records, says the National Statistics Institute (INE – acronym in Portuguese) in the bulletin showing the agricultural forecasts of January, 31st.

Preliminary data says that, despite disruptions in production in Trás-os-Montes, and considering the start of new olive grove activity, 943 thousand tons of olives for olive oil were harvested last year, 30% more than that harvested in 2018.
